Earn Driving Your Own Car in Georgetown, Guyana

If you own a car in Georgetown, you already have the main thing you need to earn money driving. What's changed recently is how you find passengers — and how much of the fare you get to keep.

The way most driving work happens now

Plenty of drivers in Guyana work the traditional way: hire car on a stand, a base that calls you when a job comes in, or a set of regular customers who have your number. It works, and for drivers with a steady base it works well.

The gaps are familiar ones. Quiet periods where nothing comes in. Haggling over the price with someone who has no idea what the trip is worth. And if you drive under a base or a service, a share of your fare going somewhere other than your pocket.

How Intra works for drivers

Intra is an app where riders post the trip they want and drivers send their own price for it.

You see the pickup point, the drop-off and the number of passengers before you quote anything. Then you send the price you'll do it for. The rider sees your offer next to offers from other drivers nearby and picks one.

Three things follow from that:

You set the price. Not a meter, not an algorithm, not a base. Long trip out to the East Bank late at night? Price it accordingly. Short run around the corner on a slow afternoon? Quote sharp and take the work.

You keep all of it. Intra takes no commission. The rider hands you cash at the end of the trip. There's no platform cut, no weekly fee, no plan to sign up for, and no money sitting in an account waiting to be paid out.

Nobody is assigning you work. You choose which requests to bid on and which to skip.

What you need to start

  • A car, bus or moto-bike
  • A valid driver's licence
  • A smartphone with internet
  • A photo of yourself and a photo of your vehicle

Sign-in is by phone number — a one-time code arrives by WhatsApp or SMS, so there's no password to remember. Pick Driver when you set up your profile, add your vehicle, and you'll start seeing requests near you.

Drive when you want to

There are no shifts and no minimum hours. Open the app when you want work and close it when you don't. If you need to stop for a while, you can pause new trip requests for a few hours so nothing comes through until you're ready.

That makes it workable as a second thing rather than a commitment — if you already drive, or you have another job and want to run a few trips in the evening.

Where you'll find trips

Most activity is in and around Georgetown, including runs out to Cheddi Jagan International at Timehri and Eugene F. Correia at Ogle. You can receive a request anywhere in Guyana — whether one comes through depends on riders being nearby at the time.

Honest about the stage we're at

Intra is new in Guyana. There is not a rider waiting on every street corner, and it would be dishonest to suggest otherwise.

So the sensible way to use it is alongside whatever you do now, not instead of it. Keep your base, keep your regulars, and let Intra add trips on top when they come. You give up nothing by having it installed — there's no fee and no exclusivity.

What's worth knowing is that early drivers matter more than later ones. Riders who open the app and get offers quickly come back; riders who get nothing don't. Every driver online makes that first experience better for the next rider.
