Guyana didn't have a working ride-hailing app for a long time. Uber never launched here, and neither did Bolt, Grab, or Lyft. What filled the gap is a handful of locally built apps — and if you're standing on a street in Georgetown trying to decide which to install, it's not obvious how they differ.
Here's an honest rundown of the main options, what each actually does, and who each one suits.
The apps you'll find
RideGY
Guyana-built, Guyana-focused. RideGY gives you an upfront fare in Guyanese dollars before you book — you see one price, set by the app, and accept it or don't. Its listing describes vehicle classes from Standard through SUV, Premium and Bike, payment by cash, card or in-app RideGY credit, and a fairly deep feature set: add stops mid-trip, schedule a ride ahead, or hire a driver by the hour or the day. Safety features include live tracking, trip sharing, a 4-digit ride PIN to confirm you're getting into the right car, and the option to set a driver-gender preference.
Best for: riders who want a fixed number immediately, want to pay by card, or need scheduled or hourly hire.
Book A Ride
A smaller Guyanese ride-sharing app, with separate apps for passengers and drivers. Its listing positions it mainly on price — describing rates as competitive and potentially cheaper than a regular taxi — and lists live tracking so you can follow the car on the map. The listing is thinner than the others, so it's harder to say exactly how pricing is set without using it.
Best for: worth a look if you're price-shopping and want another option installed.
Intra
Covers both Guyana and Suriname. Intra inverts how pricing works: instead of the app naming a price, you post your trip and nearby drivers send you offers. You see several real prices and pick one. There's no surge pricing, because no algorithm is setting prices at all — drivers quote what they'll accept.
Intra takes no commission. You pay your driver directly in cash at the end of the trip, and the platform never touches the money. You can request a car, a moto-bike, or a bus. Sign-in is a one-time code by WhatsApp or SMS, so there's no password to remember.
Best for: riders who'd rather compare real offers than accept a set price, who want their fare going to the driver instead of a platform cut, or who also travel to Suriname.

The thing nobody tells you: install more than one
In a market this size, the honest advice is to have two or three of these on your phone.
Ride-hailing in Guyana is still early. None of these apps has the density Uber has in a big city, and on any given evening the deciding factor isn't which app is best in the abstract — it's which one has a driver a few streets away. Installing one app and concluding "ride apps don't work here" because nobody answered is the most common mistake.
They're all free. Install a couple, and use whichever gets you a car.
What to actually check before you ride
- Confirm the vehicle and driver against what the app shows you before getting in.
- Know how you're paying. Some apps take card; Intra is cash-only, paid to the driver directly.
- Agree the price is what you expect before the trip starts — whether that's an upfront fare or an offer you accepted.
- Share your trip with someone if you're riding at night; most of these apps support it.
Trying Intra
If the bidding model appeals — seeing what several drivers will actually do your trip for, rather than being handed one number — Intra is free on Android and iPhone.
Based on each app's public Google Play listing as of September 2026. These apps update often; check the current listings for the latest. Spotted something out of date? Email sales@intra.cab and we'll fix it.
