An Okada App for Nigeria: How Motorcycle Trips Work on Intra Cab, and Where Okada Is Actually Allowed

Anyone who has sat in the queue at Iwo Road at five in the evening, or tried to get from Mokola to Dugbe when every Micra is full, knows why a bike gets through an Ibadan afternoon faster than a car. Intra Cab lets riders ask specifically for a motorcycle. What it doesn't have yet is a single bike to answer them.

Where things stand right now

Being straight with you: as of October 2026 there are no motorcycle drivers on Intra Cab in Nigeria. None. When a rider ticks Motorcycle on a request, it goes unanswered. That is a gap a handful of okada riders could own.

It matters because of how requests are routed. A trip only reaches drivers whose vehicle type matches what the rider asked for. A bike request goes to bike drivers only — you are not competing with cars for it, and right now there is nobody else in the queue at all.

It also matters because of what has happened to bike apps in Nigeria. Gokada, MAX and ORide all pulled out of passenger rides after the 2020 Lagos ban and moved into deliveries or vehicle financing. SafeBoda left Nigeria at the end of 2022. UberMoto ran in Ibadan for a while and went with Uber when Uber left Nigeria in September 2026. Bolt and inDrive are car apps; inDrive uses bikes for parcels, not people. So in the cities where okada is legal, an okada rider in 2026 has essentially no app that brings passengers to him. Intra Cab has the motorcycle option switched on today, for riders and drivers, with no commission.

Where okada is allowed — and where it is not

This is the part most "okada app" articles skip, so here it is plainly, as things stand in October 2026. Rules change and are set by each state; check yours before you quote on anything.

  • Ibadan and the rest of Oyo State: okada is legal and regulated. Under Executive Order 002 of 2026 commercial motorcycles may operate between 5:30am and 10:30pm; outside those hours bikes are impounded. Riders are expected to register with the state and wear the approved jacket with its QR code. OYRTMA enforces it.
  • Lagos State: okada is banned outright in ten local government areas — Ikeja, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Apapa, Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu and Mushin — and in fifteen council development areas inside them, including Yaba, Ikoyi-Obalende, Victoria Island, Ojodu, Onigbongbo, Bariga, Isolo and Ejigbo. It is also banned on the major expressways and bridges across the whole state. Enforcement is real: bikes are impounded and crushed, and the task force was still seizing them in Ikoyi in early 2026. In the other ten LGAs — Alimosho, Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikorodu, Ojo, Amuwo-Odofin, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Badagry, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki — okada runs on inner roads. Not on Ikorodu Road, not on the Lagos–Badagry or Lekki–Epe expressways, not over any bridge.
  • Abuja: in August 2026 the FCT Minister approved restrictions on okada and keke in the city centre and designated zones on security grounds, while saying a ban across the whole territory would be difficult. If you ride in the FCT, treat the centre as off-limits and check the designated zones.
  • Kano: the statewide ban remains in force.
  • Port Harcourt: commercial motorcycles have been barred from the city for years, and Obio/Akpor council added its own ban from August 2026.
  • Everywhere: the FRSC announced in May 2026 a national registration drive for okada and keke riders — biometric registration, union membership and safety training. Expect it to reach you.

Intra does not change any of this. The app will show you a request wherever a rider posts it; whether you may legally carry a passenger there is your responsibility, not the rider's and not ours. Do not quote on a trip you cannot legally do. If you ride where okada is banned, this post is not for you.

How a bike trip works

  1. A rider posts a pickup and drop-off and selects Motorcycle. The passenger count locks at one.
  2. You see it in Available Trips, with how far you are from the pickup, and send the naira price you'll do it for.
  3. The rider picks an offer. If it's yours, you get their contact details and head over.
  4. Cash in hand at the end of the trip. Intra takes no commission and never touches the money. No wallet, no daily remittance.

Pricing a bike trip

Nobody sets the fare for you, so think about what goes into a bike quote: the distance, the time of day, whether it's raining (a wet ride is worth more — or you skip it), and whether the route is a quick run along Bodija inner roads or a crawl through Gate at lunchtime.

Short hops across town in daylight are where a bike wins. Your fuel for a trip is a fraction of a car's, so you can quote under the cars and still clear more per kilometre than they do. The numbers are yours — if you'd normally take ₦400 for a short hop and ₦1,000 across town, quote that. Long runs with luggage out to the airport are a car's job — leave those.

What you need

  • A licence that covers a motorcycle
  • A roadworthy bike, registered and insured
  • Two helmets — one for you and one for the passenger. The FRSC requires them for both, and a rider will judge you on whether you have a spare the moment you pull up.
  • Whatever your state requires of commercial riders — in Oyo, the registration and the QR-code jacket
  • A smartphone with data and a Nigerian number (+234), and ideally a handlebar mount so you can see the next request without stopping
  • Sign-up is the same as for any driver: phone number, a selfie holding your licence, and a photo of the bike. The full list is in what you need to drive for Intra Cab in Nigeria.

Where bike trips come from

In Ibadan: Dugbe and Mokola, Bodija market and the estates behind it, the University of Ibadan and UCH, Agodi Gate, Iwo Road and Ojoo for people connecting to buses, Challenge and Ring Road, Sango and Apata — short hops between places a car would take twenty minutes to reach in traffic.

In Lagos, only where it's legal: inner roads in Alimosho — Ikotun, Egbeda, Igando — in Agege, Ikorodu town, Ojo and Alaba, Badagry, Epe and the estates off the Ibeju-Lekki corridor. People getting from the main road to a street the bus doesn't reach.

A request can come from anywhere in Nigeria. Whether one comes through depends on a rider being near you at that moment.

The honest part

Intra has only just opened in Nigeria. Rider numbers are growing from nothing, and bike requests are a fraction of that. This is not a "quit the park" story. It is: install it, keep it on while you're already out, and quote on what comes. It costs nothing and there is no exclusivity.

On bikes specifically, being early matters more than usual. A rider who requests a motorcycle once and gets no offer stops ticking the box. A rider who gets a fast, fair offer keeps coming back — and tells the next person at the junction. The okada riders who are on the app when the first requests land are the ones who will own that habit in their area.

Restrictions above are as reported publicly for October 2026: Lagos State Government and press reports on the ten-LGA ban and 2026 enforcement, Oyo State Executive Order 002 of 2026 as reported by OYRTMA and the press, FCT announcements of August 2026, Kano State Police statements of December 2025, Rivers council announcements of July 2026, and the FRSC's May 2026 registration announcement. They change; confirm with your state before you ride for hire.
