What You Need to Drive for Intra Cab in Nigeria: Licence, Vehicle, and How Approval Works

Most of the questions drivers ask before signing up come down to the same two things: what do I actually need, and what happens after I press submit. Here is the full list, in the order the app asks for it, with nothing left out.

The short version

  • A valid Nigerian driver's licence for the type of vehicle you'll drive
  • A car, bus or motorcycle that is registered, roadworthy and insured as the law requires
  • A smartphone (Android or iPhone) with mobile data
  • Your phone number — that is your login, there is no password
  • About ten minutes

There is no sign-up fee, no training session to attend, no waiting list, and you don't need to be attached to a fleet, a car-hire scheme or a park.

Step 1: Sign in with your phone number

Enter your number with the Nigerian country code (+234). A one-time code arrives by WhatsApp or SMS. Choose Driver when the app asks what you'll use it for.

Step 2: A selfie holding your licence

This is the step people ask about most, so here is exactly what happens. You take one photo: your face and your driver's licence side by side, with the text on the licence facing the camera. The app reads your name, date of birth and licence number straight off the card and checks that the face on the licence is the person holding it.

Why it works this way: riders see your face and name before they get into a stranger's car, and they need to trust that the person who arrives is the person on the profile. The photo with your licence in it is never shown to riders — they only ever see a tight crop of your face.

A few tips: take it in good light, avoid glare on the card, and hold the licence close enough that the small print is readable. If the automatic check can't make the match, you are not rejected — your account goes to a person on our side to look at (more on that below).

Step 3: Your vehicle

Pick Car, Motorcycle or Bus, set how many passengers you can carry (a motorcycle is fixed at one), and add a clear photo of the vehicle. Riders see this photo next to your offer, so a clean shot in daylight wins more trips than a dark one taken in the compound at night.

You can also add a photo of your vehicle particulars and a photo of the back of the vehicle with the plate clearly visible. The app reads the plate off both and confirms they match. These two are optional at the moment, but adding them means your profile is fully verified from day one, and we will be asking every driver for them in time.

A note on keke: there is no tricycle type in the app, so a keke napep doesn't have an exact match today. Motorcycle and car are what's available.

A note on okada: the Motorcycle type is live, and there are currently no motorcycle drivers on Intra in Nigeria at all, so a bike rider who signs up where okada is legal — Ibadan, or the Lagos LGAs outside the ban — is the only offer a rider will see. Where okada is banned, don't. Where it is and isn't allowed, as of October 2026, is laid out here.

Step 4: Approval

If the licence selfie checks out automatically, you are approved as soon as your vehicle details are in — usually within minutes of finishing sign-up. Open Available Trips and you'll start seeing requests near you.

If something couldn't be matched automatically — a blurry licence, a plate that didn't read, a photo taken in the dark — the account is held for a manual look and the app shows Identity review pending. A real person checks the actual photos and either approves you or asks for a retake. We are a small team, not a call centre, so this is normally quick; if you've been waiting more than a day, use the contact link on the intra.cab homepage and we'll sort it.

The legal side is still yours

Intra Cab checks that you are who your licence says and that the vehicle is really yours. It does not replace whatever Nigeria, your state or your local government requires of you to carry paying passengers: a licence of the right class, current vehicle papers, insurance that covers passengers, and any permit, card or registration the authorities ask of commercial drivers where you operate — Lagos, for example, has its own requirements for commercial drivers and its own rules on where motorcycles may carry passengers. Intra doesn't issue or check those; that is between you and the relevant office. If you already drive for a living you know all this. If you're new to it, ask before you take your first paying passenger.

What is not required

  • A new car — any roadworthy vehicle, any year
  • A bank account, card or wallet — no money ever passes through Intra
  • Exclusivity — keep driving for Bolt, inDrive, LagRide or your own regulars
  • Fixed hours, a daily target or a minimum number of trips

After you're approved

Open the app when you want work. Each request shows the pickup, the drop-off and the passenger count before you quote, so you always know what you're pricing. New trips near you arrive as a push notification, and if you haven't reacted within a minute we also send you a WhatsApp message, so you don't have to sit staring at the screen between trips. Need to stop for a while? Pause new requests for a few hours from the Available Trips screen.

That's the whole list. Download Intra Cab and sign up as a driver.
